Bighouse Lodge lies on the north coast of Sutherland in a stunning location at the mouth of the River Halladale, adjacent to the sea and the amazing Melvich beach! The very comfortable Georgian lodge has 12 double/twin en-suite bedrooms sleeping a total of 24 guests.
Stalking is available over 60,000 acres, together with salmon fishing on the River Halladale (5 year average is 730). Loch fishing, red and hind stalking, walked-up grouse, rough shooting, driven partridge, wild fowling and sea fishing can all be arranged. Sea fishing can be arranged from Scrabster. The proximity to the sea and beach (5 minute walk) make it very special. Bighouse Estate provides a first class sporting and family destination.
Fishing
The lodge sits at the mouth of the River Halladale, a well known spate salmon river. Along its 15 mile length there are some 50 named pools. The river has 6 beats (2 upper and 4 lower) 3 rods fish on each beat. Ghillies and guides are available on request.
There are numerous trout lochs on the estate offering some excellent wild brown trout fishing.
Sea fishing trips can be arranged from Melvich Bay or from Scrabster, which provide a fun day out.
Stalking
Bighouse Estate extends to some 60,000 acres of wild Sutherland landscape bordering onto the Flow Country. The wide rolling plains and hills make stalking an exciting challenge for both the experienced and inexperienced stalker.
Stalking normally takes place from August to October and Hind Stalking from November to February. The estate also provides Roe stalking in the numerous forested areas.
Shooting
The estate has developed a successful driven partridge shoot where birds are driven across deep gullies and ravines in spectacular settings close to the River Halladale. Walked up grouse over dogs is also available at Bighouse and on neighbouring estates. Falconers are also welcome.
There is also excellent rough shooting for woodcock, snipe and pheasant.

We say...
Bighouse Lodge is in a wonderful position on the north coast of Scotland and offers fabulous mixed sporting opportunities on the estate. There is a very good chance of the ultimate prize, a MacNab!
You say...
Our party of 16 (aged 16 months to 88 years!) enjoyed a sensational week at Bighouse Lodge. 4 first salmon, a breathtaking first stalking experience, walked up grouse, surfing before breakfast (and that was the teenagers!), a clay pigeon shoot, our daughter discovered a talent she didn’t know she had, and a picnic lunch for the whole party on the beach. Bighouse Lodge is a very special place and nothing was too much trouble.
